Kidnapped Blog Post 2

David is becoming suspicious of his uncle and feels like he wants to take Davids inheridance that is owed to his after his parents died and on top of that is tricked by his uncle. His uncle surprisingly gives him a "present" he had held for him since David was born. He precedes to tell David to go grab a chest from the side tower of the house which brings David to a dark stairway that could have injured him or caused his death. Ebenezer then says it was a little joke the next morning. That morning Ebenezer and David go to the harbor because the captain of the ship, Hoseason, needs orders from Ebenezer before he goes on his journey. While talking to the cabin boy, Ransome, tells David stories about how living on the ship, Covenant, isn't a good expirience. Ransome is abused by the navigator of the ship. Ebenezer and Hoseason come back from there little talk and they want to show David around the ship and David agrees because he is curious to see more of the ship. Before seeing more of the ship David is knocked unconsious.

This point of the book we are starting to realize how much of a bad guy Ebenezer is. First he tries to kill David by making him go on the stairs and then he arranges for his kidnapping on the Covenant.

David wakes up in the brig of the ship and Mr. Riach comes to visit him. Hoseason wants to leave him to die and Mr. Riach isn't in agreement with him. David begins to know some of the sailors and talks to them and likes them better than he did before. Ransome, After hearing Davids story, says he'll write a letter to David's fathers lawyer or Mr. Campbell if he can. Ransome was killed by the drunk navigator of the ship and has gone completely insane for the fact that he killed the boy. now David is the new cabin boy and become accustom to the chores he has to do. He says that hes okay with his chores but hes becoming comfortable on the ship which confuses me.

David gets his chance to escape. A French man, Alan Breck Stewart, has come onto the ship and David overhears the captin planning to kill the man. After running to tell the man David agrees to fight with him against the men on the ship.

Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson

The novel Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson starts with the main character David Balfour going on an adventure to find himself. David is a seventeen year old boy from Essendean, Scotland and both of his parents are dead and he no longer has a reason to stay in Essendean. Before leaving he meets with Mr.Campbell, the minister of the town and a friend of David's father, who wants David to take a letter to the House of Straws in Cramond. Before taking this letter to Ebenezer Balfour, his uncle, Mr.Campbell gives David his fathers left over money, a shilling, bible, and a healing ointment recipe. David heads to Cramond asking around to see where he can find the house of straws he's looking for but people aren't giving him much help. He comes to someone who gives him some information but tells him that his uncle wasn't very popular in the town which makes David upset. He figures his uncle is a mean guy and almost decides to go home but he continues anyway.

What was David's expectations of his uncle and why was he so disappointed in what he found out?

David gets to the house and is answered to his uncle with a gun in his hand. He expects the person who answered the door to be a servant but it was actually his uncle. Davids hope was to have a wealthy family members that would help him and David begins to get angry. The uncle decides to go out but tells David that he'll have to lock him out when he leaves but David said that he'll leave if he does so and that causes the Uncle not to leave. David finds a book that his father signed dedicated to his Uncle and asks if him and his father were brothers and to avoid answering starts to become upset about his brothers death and this only confuses David more.

I'm very suspicious about Davids uncle. He seems like he has something to hide and he isn't giving David much information and hopefully he opens up to David later in the book.

After reading the first few chapters i caught an instant connection with this book between David and Peter Parker from spiderman. Both teens who lost their parents at a young age and had to live with family members. In Davids case it is his uncle Ebenzer and in Peters case it was his uncle Ben.
